In the realm of grooming, discussions around hair care often tend to gravitate towards women. However, men's hair health is equally important and deserves a moment in the spotlight. Whether you're striving for a lush beard or a fuller head of hair, the journey to healthy growth can be multifaceted.
At Calia, we believe that nurturing your hair naturally is a lifestyle choice that leads to long-lasting benefits. In this guide, we'll delve into effective hair growth strategies tailored specifically for men.
1. Nourish from Within
Just as a healthy garden starts with nutrient-rich soil, vibrant hair growth begins internally. A balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein is fundamental for promoting strong and resilient hair. Incorporate foods like leafy greens, nuts, eggs, and fish into your meals to provide your body with the essential building blocks for hair growth.
2. Embrace Essential Oils
Harnessing the power of nature, essential oils can be potent allies in your quest for luscious locks. Oils such as rosemary, peppermint, and lavender have been celebrated for their ability to stimulate circulation to the scalp, promote hair follicle health, and even combat hair loss. Incorporating these oils into your grooming routine through massage or as part of your hair care products can work wonders for encouraging hair growth.
3. Gentle Care, Strong Results
While it might be tempting to vigorously scrub your scalp, gentle care is key to maintaining a healthy environment for hair growth. Harsh shampoos laden with chemicals can strip the scalp of its natural oils and disrupt the hair growth cycle. Opt for natural, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners like those offered by Calia to cleanse and nourish your hair without compromising its integrity. Shop here.
4. Stimulate Circulation
A simple yet effective way to kickstart hair growth is through scalp massage. Massaging the scalp not only feels indulgent but also helps increase blood flow to the hair follicles, delivering vital nutrients and oxygen for optimal growth. Incorporate scalp massages into your routine using nourishing oils to amplify their benefits and promote relaxation. Find our full scalp massage guide here.
5. Patience and Consistency
Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a full head of hair. Consistency is key when implementing hair growth strategies. While it's natural to desire immediate results, understand that healthy hair growth is a gradual process that requires patience and dedication. Stay committed to your regimen, and the rewards will follow!
6. Stress Less, Grow More
In today's fast-paced world, stress has become an inevitable part of life. However, chronic stress can wreak havoc on your body, including your hair health. Find healthy outlets to manage stress, whether it's through exercise, meditation, or spending time in nature. Your hair will thank you for it.
7. Consultation and Professional Advice
If you're experiencing significant hair loss or concerns about your hair health, don't hesitate to seek guidance from a healthcare professional or a dermatologist. They can help identify any underlying issues and provide tailored recommendations to support your hair growth journey.
By adopting natural strategies and embracing the power of botanical ingredients, you can cultivate a thriving environment for your hair to flourish.

]]>Your hair is often considered your crowning glory, but true hair health begins with proper scalp care. Neglecting your scalp can lead to various issues, such as dandruff, dryness, and even hair loss. In this beginner's guide to scalp care, we'll explore the fundamentals of maintaining a healthy scalp to promote vibrant and beautiful hair.
Just as different skin types require specific care, your scalp has its own unique needs. Identify your scalp type to tailor your routine accordingly:
a. Oily Scalp: Characterized by excess oil production, an oily scalp may lead to greasy hair and attract dirt easily. Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and focus on regular cleansing.
b. Dry Scalp: Dryness can cause itching and flakiness. Look for hydrating shampoos and conditioners containing ingredients like coconut oil or other enriching oils such as almond, avocado, or argan oil.
c. Normal/Combination Scalp: If your scalp falls somewhere in between, choose products that balance moisture without overstimulating oil production.
Selecting the right hair care products is crucial for maintaining a healthy scalp. Opt for chemical-free shampoos and conditioners, because chemicals (such as sulfates), can strip the scalp of natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Many people favour natural products because of their soothing and antimicrobial properties.
Finding the right balance in your washing routine is essential. While washing your hair daily may strip it of natural oils, waiting too long between washes can lead to product buildup and an unhealthy scalp. Aim to wash your hair 2-3 times a week, adjusting based on your scalp's specific needs.
Incorporate a gentle scalp massage into your routine to promote blood circulation and stimulate hair follicles. Use your fingertips in a circular motion, applying minimal pressure. This not only relaxes you but also helps distribute natural oils and encourages a healthy scalp environment.
Just like your skin, your scalp benefits from exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and product buildup. Consider using a mild scalp scrub once a week to promote a clean and balanced environment. DIY options with ingredients like brown sugar or coffee grounds can be effective and budget-friendly.
Guard your scalp against environmental stressors by wearing a hat in extreme weather conditions. UV rays, wind, and pollution can contribute to scalp damage, so take steps to shield your scalp whenever necessary.
Caring for your scalp is the foundation for maintaining healthy and beautiful hair. By understanding your scalp type, choosing the right products, establishing a consistent routine, and incorporating gentle massage and occasional exfoliation, you can achieve a scalp that promotes optimal hair growth and vitality. Start your scalp care journey today, and watch as your hair transforms into its most radiant self.
]]>1. Stop Fearing The Hairdresser
Let's get this one out of the way first. Yes, trimming your hair seems counterintuitive, but it's really not. We promise! Trims get rid of accruing damage and the split ends that end up screwing you over in the long run. There is no cure for split ends rather than cutting them off, and once you start doing so consistently you'll be on the road to healthier hair in no time.
2. Study The Products You Use
This goes without saying at this point, but ditching the use of modern chemicals (such as sulfates, parabens and silicones) on your hair will go a long way. These harsh ingredients can build up on your scalp, clog your hair follicles, and sabotage your big hair-growth goals. You can shop our entire natural hair care collection here.
3. Refresh Your Hair Brushing Skills
If you need to brush your hair, do not do it in a rush. Please! Only brush your hair gently when you truly need to, and make sure it’s with a brush that's kind to your hair. Opt for a wooden brush with rounded, soft pins to help prevent any additional breakage. Whether you’re brushing, combing, or detangling, always start from the ends and work your way up to avoid snagging your hair! Shop our collection of wooden brushes and combs here.
4. Eat A Balanced Diet
Ensuring you are eating enough vitamins and minerals can be essential in the pursuit of healthier hair. Some of the best vitamins for hair growth include B vitamins, vitamin D, vitamin E, zinc, biotin and iron. If you are unsure of what vitamins to incorporate to your diet and how, always speak to your doctor or a professional.
5. Massage Your Scalp Regularly
Scalp massages can help hair growth by stimulating and improving the blood circulation within the hair follicles. Scalp massages cause blood vessels to expand under the skin, generating more blood flow. The stimulation stretches out the cells of hair follicles, which causes them to produce thicker hair strands. You can massage your scalp when you brush it daily, or even in the shower! 5 minutes a day will do the trick.
6. Don't Be Afraid Of Hair Oiling
Oiling your hair on a regular basis helps to rehydrate it, soften it, prevent excess hair fall and keep the scalp healthy. All things which will result in more rapid growth. Thanks to all the vitamins and minerals present in natural hair oils, you can nourish the hair from the roots to the ends. Not only that, but these hair oils have the ability to penetrate into the hair cuticle in order to help protect your hair from damage. You can read our full hair oiling guide here!
Whatever your hair goals are, we look forward to helping you achieve them as we enter the New Year! If you have any questions or article suggestions you want to see, let us know here.

]]>Firstly, What Are Split Ends And How Do They Happen?
Split ends happen when the hair becomes dry, brittle and frayed. Split ends, or (medically known as) Trichoptilosis, is a certain type of hair damage that occurs when the hair cuticle is not strong enough and breaks the hair into two separate branches. Exposure to extreme weather conditions, chemical hair products, and excessive heat styling use on the hair are to blame for the appearance of those pesky ends. The good news? There is something you can do about it!
Avoid Any Kind Of Chemicals
Hair care products that contain harmful chemicals such as sulfates, parabens and silicones can cause premature hair breakage. An easy way to help prevent split ends is to switch to using all natural hair care products on a regular basis, as they are much gentler on the hair over time! You can shop our entire natural hair care collection here.
Do A Hair Mask At Least Once Per Week
Applying a moisturizing hair mask once per week helps to replenish the hair with hydration. Doing so ensures the hair is primed to receive all the required nutrients (in your natural hair care products) that help towards making your hair healthy and strong. Try our best-selling Intensive Conditioner for your weekly hit of hydration!
Switch To A Wooden Brush
Wooden brushes, such as our popular TEK Brushes, evenly distribute the hairs natural oils as you brush, oils that are vital to the health of your hair. Gently brushing your hair with a wooden brush (from the roots to the ends) on a daily basis will help keep the ends of your hair nurtured and protected from any unnecessary breakage.
Get Into The Habit Of Regular Trims
If you already have split ends, no amount of hair care products will get rid of them. Our advice? Start getting preventative with your hair trims by going no longer than 6 months without a freshen up on your ends. In an ideal world, you should be trimming your hair every 3-4 months, but 6 months at the most!
Avoid Washing Your Hair Too Often
Washing your hair every day can cause many issues, including stripping your scalp of the natural oils it produces, otherwise known as sebum. If you wash your hair too often you can strip your of sebum, and sebum is responsible for helping to protect your hair from moisture loss. Essentially, by over washing you can cause your hair to become unnecessarily dry, making your hair an arena for breakage and dead ends.
At the end of the day, the best thing you can do when it comes to preventing split ends is to solidify your hair care routine and remain consistent with it. Hold yourself accountable to a weekly wash day schedule, a weekly hair mask, daily gentle brushing and whatever else you know your hair loves, and your ends will be smooth in no time!
]]>As the leaves change colour and the temperatures drop, you might notice a change in your hair as well. Dry hair during the fall is a common issue many of us face, and it's essential to understand why this happens and how to combat it. Continue reading as we explore the reasons behind dry hair during the fall and what you can do about it!
The Fall Hair Dilemma
Fall brings a host of factors that can contribute to dry hair:
a. Cooler Temperatures: The drop in temperature can reduce the humidity in the air, leading to decreased moisture levels in your hair. This can make your hair more prone to dryness and frizz.
b. Indoor Heating: When you turn on the heater to keep warm, it can further dry out the air inside your home, which, in turn, dries out your hair.
c. Windy Weather: Windy conditions during the fall can lead to hair damage and tangles, making your hair more susceptible to dryness.
d. Frequent Styling: With holiday gatherings and events, you may find yourself styling your hair more frequently. Heat styling tools can strip your hair of moisture and exacerbate dryness.
Your Action Plan for Healthy Fall Hair
Now that we understand the causes, let's delve into the solutions. Here's how to keep your hair hydrated and gorgeous during the fall season:
a. Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner: Switch to a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to combat the dryness. Look for products with ingredients like shea butter, argan oil, or hyaluronic acid, which can help lock in moisture.
b. Limit Hair Washing: Try not to wash your hair daily, as excessive washing can strip your hair of natural oils. Opt for every other day or even just a couple of times a week.
c. Hair Masks and Deep Conditioning: Invest in a quality hair mask or deep conditioner (such as our Intensive Conditioner) and use it weekly. This extra dose of moisture can work wonders in preventing dry hair.
d. Heat Protectant: If you must use heat styling tools, always apply a heat protectant before. This will shield your hair from damage caused by hot irons or blow dryers. Did you know that natural Argan oil can work as a heat protectant?
e. Protective Styles: Experiment with protective styles like braids, buns, or hats to shield your hair from the elements.
f. Regular Trims: Schedule regular trims to get rid of split ends and keep your hair looking healthy and fresh.
g. Stay Hydrated: Remember that hydration comes from within. Make sure to drink enough water to keep your hair and skin moisturized.
h. Humidifier: Consider using a humidifier in your home to maintain the right moisture levels, especially if you're running the heater frequently.
i. Diet and Supplements: Nutrient-rich foods and supplements, like biotin and omega-3 fatty acids, can promote healthy hair. Consult with a healthcare professional before adding supplements to your routine.
Dry hair during the fall is a common issue, but with the right care and attention, you can enjoy luscious, hydrated locks all season long. Embrace the change of weather and adjust your hair care routine to suit the autumnal conditions. Don't let the season steal your shine—fight the fall frizz and enjoy fabulous, moisturized hair throughout the autumn months. Shop the full Calia hair care range here.
]]>Firstly, what is self-care?
Let's clear up a common misconception before we get started, self-care is not selfish or self-indulgent. Self-care simply means to take care of yourself so that you are able to be a good partner, sibling, friend, boss, employee etc. (you get where we're going with this). To follow on that point, we know that self-care looks completely different for everyone. Self-care is simply all the measures and actions you take to tend to your physical and mental health, in the ways you are best able to do so.
Layer Up And Take A Walk
Cold weather doesn't mean that you need to stop spending time outdoors, especially if that's what fills your cup. Studies suggest that walking helps boost your mood because it increases blood flow and blood circulation to both the brain and body. Endorphins are known to not only boost our mood but also to lower our stress levels, and it's as simple as getting outside for 20-30 minutes a day.
Elevate Your Space
A change is any season can be a great catalyst for cleaning, decluttering and readying your space for the months that lie ahead. One of our favourite ways to brighten up any room or space is to grab one of our therapeutic grade essential oils and add a couple drops to any blanket, pillow, or fabric furniture for an instant refresh. You can also add your favourite scent to a diffuser!
Take A Candlelit Shower
Nothing beats a warm bath or warm shower. We know a bath isn't always realistic to fit into your day to day, which is why candlelit showers are a great way to add even just 10 minutes of self-care into your daily routine! Shop our line of body care and hair care products here to take your showers to a whole new level.
Try A New Recipe
Take advantage of the colder, darker nights with by cooking some delicious fall comfort foods, or trying out a new recipe that sparks inspiration. The key to self-care (for us), is being as intentional as possible with simply daily tasks, such as cooking, to create as much enjoyment as possible.
Change Up Your Skin Care Or Beauty Routine
With the colder temperatures, comes annoyingly dry skin. If there’s a heavy-duty moisturizer you’ve had your eye on, such as our Intensive Facial Cream or Rose Rejuvenation Cream, treat yourself! Whether it's a new product, or changing up the way you do things, it may spark a little daily joy.
One thing to remember is that self-care activities are never a waste of time. Filling up your own cup so that you can tend to others will never not be of benefit to your life. So... go for that walk, read that book or take that long bath. Your mind and body will thank you!

]]>With so many of today's products containing a wide variety of synthetic and sometimes harmful ingredients, we at Calia have created a line of hair care products that are as pure and as natural as possible. Our main goal? To get your back to its most naturally beautiful state. Now, let's get to the important questions...
Why transition to natural hair care products?
The main benefit of switching to natural hair care is (of course) all the beneficial ingredients! Unlike many of the typical hair care products you may find on the shelves, natural products are much more gentle on your hair, allowing your hair to live to its full potential! This is because they are free from harmful chemicals such as sulfates, silicones, parabens and more. The natural oils and vitamins in our formulas keep your scalp healthy, which is essential for stimulating growth, improving dryness, reducing irritation and improving hair texture!
Is there a transition period when you make the switch?
The short answer is... YES! Before you panic, keep reading. If you’ve been using chemical-based shampoos for years, then your hair will inevitably go through a transition when you make the switch. It may take anywhere from a few washes to a few weeks for your hair to start to adjust, and this totally depends on the condition of your hair. The main thing you may notice is a change in the way your natural oils behave, as chemical-based shampoos are very stripping. Not only that, but chemicals such silicones will over time accumulate in layers of build-up on the scalp and hair strands, suffocating the scalp and weighing down the hair. So, what does this mean?
The oils on your scalp will need some time to get back into balance as they restore themselves after years of being stripped away, as well as needing time to detoxify any build up. As a result of this, your hair may initially feel heavier or oilier. On the flip side, your hair may also feel more frizzy or dry. Whichever way your hair reacts, it will subside over time and your hair will feel healthier in no time!
How long does the transition period last?
Many of our customers report feeling no difference when making the switch, while others definitely go through some form of detox. It may take anywhere from a few washes to a few weeks for your hair to adjust. Speaking in numbers, the change can take up to 4-6 weeks depending on the amount of build-up in the scalp and hair, but in most cases, 2-3 weeks is enough to find a new balanced state! We always recommend to try at least a full 240ML bottle of our shampoo and conditioner each before determining its effect on your hair.
So, what are you waiting for? There's no time like the present to start giving your hair the care it truly deserves! Shop our full hair care line here.

Many of us take the health of our scalp for granted; without a healthy scalp, achieving healthier hair is next to impossible. Continue reading for our essential tips on how to achieve a healthy, balanced and thriving scalp!
First, what is a healthy scalp? A healthy scalp is typically free of the following:
As we mentioned above, the state of your scalp truly determines the health of your hair. Much like a plant struggles to grow in unhealthy soil, the same goes for the hair. By making simple changes to your hair care routine you can make a big difference in the overall health of your scalp. Please note that if none of the following tips make a difference, it might be worth it to see a dermatologist.
Avoid Chemicals
By using products containing chemicals such as sulfates, you might be hurting your scalp. Sulfates strip away the natural oils in your hair, making it prone to itchiness, dryness and general irritation.
Shampoo Gently
Rather than vigorously scrubbing your scalp when applying shampoo (which is typically the default), gently massage your shampoo into the scalp and allow it to gradually lather. Patience is key!
Try to Wash Your Hair Less Often
If you suffer from a dry, itchy or irritated scalp, you may benefit from washing your hair less. By washing your hair too frequently, you can strip it from its natural oils, causing further irritation or inflammation. As a rule of thumb, we generally recommend washing your hair no more than 3-4x per week!
Ensure You Are Eating Balanced Diet
Vitamins such as antioxidants and omega 3's can have a positive effect when it comes to creating a healthy environment for the scalp. If you're struggling with extreme scalp issues, we recommend speaking with your doctor about which vitamin supplements may support your hair growth journey!
Use Essential Oils
As you know by now, we firmly believe essential oils have a wide range of powerful benefits for the hair. Combine 5 drops of Cedarwood Atlas Oil, and 5 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil with a carrier oil such as jojoba or argan oil, and gently massage the mixture onto your scalp, leaving it on for anywhere from 10 minutes to 12 hours before rinsing thoroughly. Repeat this 1-2x per week for optimal results!
The bottom line? Scalp care is crucial for the overall health of your hair. It's never too late to start caring for your scalp, the most important thing is just that you begin!

"After struggling with postpartum hair loss combined with split ends and dryness from bleach I decided to switch up my haircare routine. I then found Calia haircare online (with amazing reviews) and decided to give it a try.
I’ve been using "cleaner" hair products for about 5 years now, but this natural haircare line really blew me away and seriously stood out from the rest I have tried. I started using Calia products in June of 2022, and will continue to use this brand forever! I’ve seen excellent results in both the feel and look of my hair, as well as accelerated hair growth!
My hair was so dull before using this line, and it has brought so much life and shine into my hair. Seriously, it was immediate, it’s amazing! I currently use the Purifying Shampoo & Conditioner and I’m excited to try some of the other types they carry.
The Intensive Conditioner is a must and I also use the Hydrating Leave-in Conditioner spray daily. This spray in combination with a Wooden TEK brush I purchased from Calia is just a match made in heaven. The spray keeps my mid-to lengths moisturized, and helps detangle my hair so easily. The TEK Brush definitely helps to stimulate my hair growth and just glides through my hair, especially combined with the Leave-in Conditioning spray! I also find the tips Calia shares over social media to be extremely helpful in my haircare journey.
Overall, this brand has quality ingredients, great customer service and has made such a huge difference in my hair. I will forever be a customer. Thank you Calia! More photos attached below!

3. Doubles As A Hair Styling Product
Argan Oil does a superb job of moisturizing the hair cuticles, making it an excellent oil to use when styling your hair. By using Argan Oil as a styling agent, you can dramatically reduce the appearance of frizz, lower the likelihood of tangles, and protect your hair from any heat applied from styling tools.

]]>"I just wanted to share that I absolutely love Calia products! After bleaching my hair platinum blonde for years, it was very damaged and brittle. I finally decided one year ago to stop dyeing my hair and try to achieve the healthy hair of my dreams.
Unfortunately, even after stopping bleaching it, my hair was still in very bad shape as a result of all the bleaching I had put it through. That’s when I decided it was time to switch my haircare products and try something new, and that's when I discovered Calia products.
Now after just a few months I can happily say that I am a huge fan of the Purifying and Hydrating lines! Not only have I noticed that my hair is growing much, much faster and thicker, but I have also noticed that in the spot where my hair was receding from wearing a tight pony tail everyday, is slowly starting to grow back! I am so pleased and can't wait to see more and more progress.
I would 100% recommend Calia if you experience any hair loss, damaged hair, a receding hairline, or are looking to rapidly grow your hair long and healthy!"

]]>We often get asked about the benefits of using natural skin care vs. synthetic products you might find in a typical drug store environment. Simply put, natural skin care products carry a wide variety of benefits for both the people who use them and the planet. Here are our top 5 benefits of making the switch.
1. They're Better for the Environment
Synthetic chemicals have the potential to harm many animals and plants with which they come in contact with. Not only that, the chemicals in these products can seep into the ground and disrupt any surrounding ecosystem. Keeping that in mind, the manufacturing process for many synthetic skin care brands is also extremely disruptive to the environment.
On the flip side, organic and natural ingredients are typically originated by sustainable farming. Additionally, there are no chemicals used in the production of natural resources, meaning they lessen the load on the earth's resources. Each skin care product at Calia is thoughtfully handmade in small batches, with ingredients sustainably sourced in small quantities.
2. Natural Skin Care is More Gentle On Your Skin
Ingredients you can look out for include Parabens, Sulfates, Petrochemicals, Synthetic Dyes, Propylene Glycol, and Triclosan. Oftentimes, these chemicals can be harsh on the skin and can cause unwanted swelling, itching or redness.
People have been turning to nature since the dawn of time, so it makes sense that the best way to enhance your natural beauty would be to do the same. By staying away from harsh chemicals you can regenerate, nourish and enhance your skin without the risk of any irritants.
3. Natural Skin Care is Packed with Beneficial Nutrients
Natural skin care is packed with plenty of familiar ingredients such as Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, and Sea-buckthorn Oil (to name just a few). These dynamic ingredients can help your body function at optimal levels, while also nourishing the skin.
This is due to the exciting fact that they contain many vitamins and compounds that are beneficial for your overall health, as well as the health of your skin. Our products here at Calia are enriched with several powerful nutrients, including (and not limited to) Beta Carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Magnesium.
4. Natural Skin Care is the Ultimate Protectant Against Anti-Aging
As you age, your skin loses it's ability to produce the necessary oils needed to keep your skin nourished long-term. This is where naturally derived oils step in. These oils, such as our Sea-buckthorn Oil, are rich in antioxidants that protect your skin and help it stay firm and elastic for longer.
Not only that, essential oils such as our Rose Oil contain powerful anti-aging properties. Rose Oil can help naturally regenerate skin cells and boost collagen formation, keeping your skin fresh and vibrant.
5. Natural Products Can Help You Fight Unwanted Acne
Like sensitive skin, there are many things that can help set off a breakout. Harsh beauty products are one of them.
Soothing natural ingredients such as Almond Oil and Avocado Oil (both found in our skin care products) have anti-inflammatory and healing properties, to help both heal and prevent acne.
We understand it can be extremely overwhelming to overhaul your skin care routine, especially when you have been stuck in the same routine for so long. Even by slowly introducing natural skin care product by product, you can still make a meaningful impact on your skin and the planet. If you have any questions about our skin care products, drop us a line here and we would be more than happy to help! To shop our full skin care range click here.

1. Ditch the Heavy Towels
Instead of rubbing and tying up your hair with a standard larger towel, swap your current hair towel out for a smaller microfibre towel, or old t-shirt! The problem with most towels that you would find in an average bathroom is that they are often way too big, heavy, and can cause a lot of unnecessary ripping of the hair. Microfibre towels or t-shirts are much gentler on the hair as it dries.
2. Use a Leave-In Conditioner
Why a Leave-In Conditioner? Our Leave-In Conditioners provide extra moisture to the hair, protect it from damage, and help detangle fussy strands. Nearly every hair type can benefit from the use of leave-in conditioners, but you may find them particularly useful if you have dry, damaged, or frizzy hair! Add extra volume, shine and care to your hair in this simple step.
3. Allow Your Hair to Partially Dry Before Brushing
Hair that's wet and filled with moisture is more fragile than hair that's dry, which can result in snapping when it's brushed. Therefore, it's recommended to brush hair in a dry state, or partially dry state. This means allowing your hair to partially air-dry post-shower before beginning to comb through hair strands! If it isn't realistic for you to do this step every time you wash your hair, that's totally okay, just try your best!
4. Lock Things in With a Hair Oil
Applying a hair oil while the hair is wet, or partially wet, will nourish and protect it from frizz as it dries into a subtly shiny version of its natural texture. Once the hair is fully dry, you may pump a touch more oil into your palm, rub it between your hands and smooth it over your lengths and ends. Our favourite hair oil here at Calia is our Organic Argan Oil!
The takeaway? Even the smallest steps, such as how you care for your hair post-shower can have a BIG impact on the health of your hair! By making an effort in your daily habits, you will have beautiful hair in no time.
]]>Summer is a time of warmth, relaxation, and fun in the sun. However, the season may also present unique challenges for maintaining the health of your hair. Excessive heat, humidity, UV rays, and exposure to chlorine or saltwater can wreak havoc on your strands. Continue reading as we share our 6 essential summer hair care tips to help you keep your natural hair vibrant, hydrated, and protected all season long.
Hydration is Key: Summer heat can leave your hair dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. To combat this, prioritize hydration. Deep condition your hair once a week with a moisturizing treatment specifically formulated for natural hair (such as our Intensive Conditioner linked here). Additionally, look for hair care products that contain nourishing natural oils. We also suggest drinking plenty of water to keep your body hydrated, which reflects positively on your hair's health.
Shield Against UV Rays: Just as you protect your skin from the sun, your hair needs shielding too. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can lead to colour fading, weakened strands, and increased frizz. Before stepping out, apply a few sprays of Leave-In Conditioner to help protect your hair from unnecessary rays.
Minimize Heat Styling: During summer, it's best to give your hair a break from excessive heat styling. Embrace your natural texture and opt for heat-free hairstyles such as braids, buns, or twists. If you do use heat, always apply a heat protectant beforehand to minimize damage. Keep the heat settings low and limit the frequency of straightening or curling to avoid unnecessary stress on your strands.
Cleanse and Clarify Regularly: Sweat, excess oil, and environmental pollutants tend to accumulate during the summer months. It's crucial to cleanse your hair regularly to maintain a healthy scalp and prevent product buildup. Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo designed for natural hair to avoid stripping away natural oils, such as our Purifying Shampoo for Normal/Oily Hair. This shampoo contains clary sage, which can help remove any buildup caused from the additional oil and sweat that the summer brings to the scalp.
Protect Against Chlorine and Saltwater: Pool dips and beach outings are synonymous with summer, but chlorine and saltwater can be harsh on your tresses. Before entering the water, wet your hair thoroughly and apply a layer of our Intensive Conditioner, which has been formulated to help protect against chlorine damage. This will help minimize the absorption of damaging elements. After swimming, rinse your hair with fresh water and follow up with your usual wash and condition routine for extra replenishment.
Embrace Protective Styles: Protective styles not only shield your hair from external elements but also help retain moisture and reduce manipulation. Consider rocking braids, twists, or up-dos, which keep your ends tucked away and minimize exposure to environmental stressors. Remember to moisturize and seal your hair before installing any protective style and regularly moisturize your scalp to avoid dryness.
To conclude? With the right approach and the help of natural hair care products, you can confidently flaunt your beautiful, sun-kissed tresses all summer long. Shop our full care range here.
]]>In today's world, there are countless myths and misconceptions surrounding hair care. From extravagant claims about magical ingredients to quick-fix solutions, it can be overwhelming to separate fact from fiction. As a natural hair care company, we're always looking to provide reliable information to help you in your quest for healthier, happier, and more vibrant hair. Continue reading as we debunk 5 common hair care myths, so you don't have to keep wondering.
Myth #1: "You Need to Wash Your Hair Every Day"
Contrary to popular belief, washing your hair every day is not necessary. In fact, excessive washing can strip your scalp of its natural oils, leading to dryness and potential damage. The frequency of hair washing should depend on your hair type, lifestyle, and scalp condition. Calia Natural recommends washing your hair two to three times a week using gentle, natural shampoos and conditioners to maintain a healthy balance of oils. To find out your perfect hair-washing amount, head here!
Myth #2: "Trimming Your Hair Won't Make It Grow Faster"
Trimming your hair does not directly affect its growth rate. Hair growth occurs at the scalp, not at the ends. However, regular trims are essential for maintaining healthy hair. Trimming removes split ends, prevents breakage, and helps your hair look fuller and more vibrant. Calia Natural suggests getting a trim every 8-12 weeks, depending on your hair's condition, to maintain optimal hair health.
Myth #3: "The More Products, the Better"
Many people believe that using multiple hair products simultaneously will result in better hair care. However, using too many products can lead to product buildup, weighing down your hair and making it appear dull, especially if it's on the thinner side. It is crucial to choose high-quality, natural products that suit your hair type and address specific concerns. Calia Natural recommends starting with a minimalistic approach and using a balanced range of products that provide nourishment without overwhelming your hair. Take our hair care quiz here.
Myth #4: "Heat Protectants Make Your Hair Impervious to Damage"
Heat protectant sprays or serums are essential when using hot styling tools, but they do not make your hair immune to damage. While heat protectants create a barrier between your hair and the styling tool, they cannot eliminate all heat-related damage. Excessive heat exposure can still lead to dryness, breakage, and frizz. Calia Natural advises using heat styling tools sparingly and ensuring you use the lowest effective heat setting to minimize damage!
Myth #5: "Natural Hair Products Are Not Effective"
Some people believe that natural hair care products are less effective than their synthetic counterparts. However, this is far from the truth. Natural hair care products, like those offered at Calia, are formulated with carefully selected plant-based ingredients that nourish and protect your hair without harsh chemicals. These products work in harmony with your hair's natural properties, promoting long-term hair health.
Now that we've cleared this up, we hope you're already feeling more confident in your hair care journey, and don't overcomplicate it. Remember to understand your hair's unique needs, choose quality natural products, and maintain a balanced approach to achieve healthy and beautiful hair!

Benefits of Scalp Massages for Hair Growth and Healthy Hair
Increases Blood Circulation
Scalp massages increase blood circulation to the hair follicles, which helps to promote hair growth. When blood flow is increased, it delivers more oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles, which helps to strengthen the hair and promote healthy growth.
Reduces Stress
Scalp massages are also a great way to reduce stress. When you massage your scalp, it releases tension in the muscles and promotes relaxation. Stress can have a negative impact on hair growth and can lead to hair loss. By reducing stress, you are creating an optimal environment for healthy hair growth.
Stimulates the Sebaceous Glands
Scalp massages also stimulate the sebaceous glands, which are responsible for producing the natural oils that keep your scalp and hair moisturized. When these glands are stimulated, they produce more oil, which helps to moisturize the scalp and prevent dandruff and dryness.
How to Properly Do Scalp Massages on Yourself (With & Without Oil)
Choose the Right Oil
Before you start your scalp massage, choose the right oil for your hair type. If you have dry hair, you may want to use a heavier oil such as castor oil or olive oil. If you have oily hair, you may want to use a lighter oil such as jojoba oil or grapeseed oil.
Divide Your Hair
Divide your hair into sections to make it easier to massage your scalp. Use a comb or your fingers to create four or five sections.
Apply Oil
Apply the oil to your fingertips and then apply it to your scalp. Massage the oil into your scalp using circular motions. Use your fingertips to apply pressure to your scalp, but be gentle to avoid damaging your hair or scalp.
Massage Your Scalp
Start at the front of your head and work your way to the back. Use circular motions to massage your scalp for three to five minutes in each section. Be sure to cover your entire scalp, including the sides and the back.
Leave the Oil in Your Hair
After you have finished your scalp massage, leave the oil in your hair for at least 30 minutes or overnight. This will give your hair and scalp time to absorb the nutrients from the oil.
*Scalp massages with oil can be done on hair wash days.
How to Do a Daily Scalp Massage (Without Oil)
If you don't want to use a hair oil so that you can do them daily, here's how to do it like a pro:
Use Your Fingertips
Use the pads of your fingertips to gently massage your scalp in a circular motion. Start at the front of your hairline and work your way back.
Apply Pressure
Apply enough pressure to feel a slight tug on your scalp, but not so much that it hurts. You want to stimulate the blood flow to your scalp without causing any damage.
Cover Your Entire Scalp
Be sure to cover your entire scalp, including the sides and back of your head. Spend a few minutes massaging each section of your scalp.
Use a Massage Tool
If you find it difficult to use your fingertips, you can also use a massage tool, such as a scalp massager or a boar bristle brush. These tools can help to stimulate blood flow to your scalp and promote healthy hair growth.
Try to incorporate a daily scalp massage into your routine. Even just a few minutes a day can make a difference in the health of your scalp and hair.
Protective styling is one of the most effective ways to promote hair growth and retain length. It involves styling your hair in a way that protects the ends of your hair from damage, such as braids, twists, or buns. This helps to prevent breakage and split ends, which are major culprits of hair damage. Protective styling also reduces the amount of manipulation your hair undergoes, which can cause damage over time.
Regular Trimming
It may sound counterintuitive, but trimming your hair regularly actually promotes healthier hair growth. Regular trimming removes split ends, which can lead to breakage and prevent your hair from growing longer. Trimming also helps to keep your hair looking fresh, and can help to prevent unnecessary tangles and knots.
Deep Conditioning
Deep conditioning is an essential part of any healthy hair routine. It involves using a conditioner that penetrates deep into the hair shaft to provide moisture and nourishment to your hair. Deep conditioning also helps to repair damage, improve elasticity, and promote healthy hair growth. It's important to deep condition your hair at least once a week, especially if you have dry or damaged hair. You can shop our Intensive Conditioner here.
Low Manipulation
Low manipulation simply means reducing the amount of manipulation your hair undergoes. This can include things like avoiding tight hairstyles, brushing your hair gently, and avoiding heat styling. Low manipulation helps to reduce breakage and damage to your hair, and can promote healthier hair growth over time.
Proper Nutrition
Your hair is a reflection of your overall health, so it's important to maintain a healthy diet to promote healthy hair growth. Eating a diet rich in vitamins and minerals, such as iron, zinc, and biotin, can help to nourish your hair from the inside out. Drinking plenty of water is also important for keeping your hair hydrated and healthy.

]]>What is hair porosity? Well, hair porosity refers to the ability of your hair to absorb and retain moisture. Understanding your hair porosity is essential because it can help you further develop an effective hair care routine that will keep your hair healthy, strong, and looking its best. Continue reading to find out about the 3 different types of hair porosity, how to determine yours, and what you can do about it!
There are three levels of hair porosity: low porosity, medium porosity, and high porosity. Here's what you need to know about each level:
Low Porosity Hair: Low porosity hair has a tightly closed cuticle layer, which makes it difficult for moisture to penetrate. This type of hair may be resistant to products and can appear dull and dry. However, once moisture is absorbed, it tends to stay locked in for longer periods.
Medium Porosity Hair: Medium porosity hair has a more open cuticle layer that allows for moisture to be easily absorbed and retained. This type of hair generally requires less maintenance and is less prone to damage.
High Porosity Hair: High porosity hair has a very open cuticle layer, which allows for moisture to easily enter and exit the hair shaft. This type of hair can be prone to damage, as it is more susceptible to breakage and frizz. However, high porosity hair can benefit from regular deep conditioning treatments.
So, how do you determine your hair porosity level? One easy way to find out is the "strand test". Simply take a clean strand of hair and drop it into a glass of water. After a few minutes, observe how the hair behaves in the water:
Another way to determine your hair porosity level is to feel the texture of your hair. If it feels rough and tangled, you may have high porosity hair. If it feels smooth and soft, you may have low porosity hair. If it feels somewhere in between, you may have medium porosity hair.
Once you have determined your hair porosity level, you can choose the right products and techniques to care for your hair. Here are some tips:
In conclusion, understanding your hair porosity level can be key to developing an effective hair care routine. By using the right products and techniques, you can keep your hair healthy and beautiful, no matter what your hair porosity level may be.

Continue reading for our top tips to ensure that you are maximizing your hair growth and getting the results you desire.

]]>Hair loss and shedding are two common hair concerns that people often confuse with one another. And while both of these conditions involve hair falling out from the scalp, they are not the same thing! Continue reading to learn the difference between the two, how to decipher them, and whether or not your hair fall is cause for concern.
Hair Shedding:
Hair shedding is a natural process that occurs when old hair falls out and is replaced by new hair. On average, people shed about 50-100 hairs per day, which is completely normal. This happens because hair has a life cycle, and each hair goes through three phases: the anagen phase, the catagen phase, and the telogen phase. During the telogen phase, the hair stops growing and eventually falls out. This is when shedding occurs.
Factors that can increase hair shedding include hormonal changes, stress, illness, poor nutrition, and certain medications. Hair shedding is usually not a cause for concern unless it is excessive or accompanied by other symptoms such as thinning hair or bald patches.
Hair Loss:
Hair loss, on the other hand, is a condition where hair falls out and does not grow back. This can be caused by a variety of factors such as genetics, hormonal changes, medical conditions, and certain medications. Hair loss can occur gradually over time or suddenly, and it can affect both men and women.
Types of hair loss include androgenetic alopecia, which is a genetic condition that causes hair to thin and eventually fall out; alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune disorder that causes hair to fall out in patches; and telogen effluvium, which is a condition where hair shedding becomes excessive due to stress or other factors.
While some hair loss can be temporary and reversible, other types may require medical treatment or lifestyle changes to prevent further hair loss.
How to Tell the Difference:
It can be difficult to tell the difference between normal hair shedding and hair loss. One way to distinguish between the two is to look at the pattern of hair loss. Normal shedding will typically result in hair falling out evenly across the scalp, while hair loss may occur in specific areas or patterns.
Another way to tell the difference is to look at the hair follicles. When hair sheds normally, the hair follicles will have a white bulb at the end. Hair loss, on the other hand, may result in hair falling out without the white bulb, which indicates that the hair has been broken off rather than fallen out naturally.
In conclusion, hair shedding and hair loss are two different hair concerns that require different approaches. At Calia Natural, we encourage our customers to pay attention to their hair and scalp health and seek medical advice if they notice excessive hair shedding or hair loss. By understanding the difference between the two, you can take steps to maintain healthy, beautiful hair!
