PRODUCT QUESTIONS

Which Calia shampoo + conditioner combo is best for your hair?

We get so many queries about this subject, so we’ll try to simplify it as much as possible!

You are new to organic/natural hair care:

Anytime you want to make a change in your shampoo (as we should from time to time), we suggest starting with the Hydrating or Moisturizing formula for the transition period. The transition period is the time it takes for your hair and scalp to essentially ‘detox' from any synthetic build-up from drugstore brands of shampoo and conditioner. These two formulas are the most widely beneficial for all hair types and are usually the best to start with.

Like all Calia shampoos + conditioners, its natural content is fabulous for your scalp and will provide a healthy environment to grow beautiful hair. We recommend using at least a full set of 240 ML bottles at minimum to allow the hair to adjust. Years of build-up from synthetic hair products can take time to remove. You will be happy you stuck it out, we promise!

You have normal hair and scalp conditions (not too oily or dry):

The Hydrating Formula or the Purifying for Normal/Dry hair generally work the best. If you have any aversion to a mild fragrance, the unscented Moisturizing formulas would be the choice as it has no fragrance.

You have dry hair and dry, itchy scalp:

While all our hair products will likely be a huge improvement on whatever you are currently using, this is where the Balancing formulas can really help.

The Moroccan Cedarwood oil in the Balancing is great for reducing the frizziness and ‘out of control’ look/feel of dry, unmanageable hair, and rich cedarwood oil can sort out a dry scalp too!

You have oily hair and scalp:

In this case, either the Hydrating or in tough cases, the Moisturizing or Curative Shampoos (the Curative has a slightly lower pH). It is important to use a Calia conditioner as it will help to close up the hair follicle and reduce the amount of oil your scalp secretes and thus keep your hair cleaner and looking better, longer.

You have dry hair and oily scalp:

Best to use the Rosemary for Dry Hair shampoo or Balancing shampoo, with the Hydrating conditioner minding not to massage into the scalp too heavily, then spritz in the Balancing Leave-in conditioner into your hair away from scalp.

You want to remove residue from your hair:

If you want to clean away any hair product residue from synthetic products or from a dirty environment, we recommend either of the new Rosemary Purifying shampoos (either the Dry hair formula or the Normal/Oily hair formula).

If your hair is very damaged from years of synthetic treatments and hair products:

Quite likely, you hair is simply dry and beaten up. If it’s very dry, start with the Balancing line and then when your hair normalizes (ie. gets back in balance), you can move into the Hydrating or Purifying lines, perhaps occasionally switching back and forth depending on preference.

This is where our combo packs are really handy, as they all you to try all of them if you like!

I’ve got split ends, what is the best product for me?

Here it’s best to start with our Intensive Conditioner. For your first few washings, use this conditioner each time you wash. Once you get your desired results you can cut down the usage frequency to perhaps once a week or just apply to the ends of the hair and rinse out. This product is great in sunny, dry climates.

How to remove the residue from all the synthetic products you've used on your hair or from a dirty environment?

While all of our super natural hair care products will do a great job, our new Purifying Rosemary shampoo + conditioners will give that extra edge in achieving your desired results. Available with Clary Sage (normal) or Cedarwood (dry).

Are Calia shampoos and conditioners okay for colour treated hair?

We keep the pH levels of our shampoos at about 5.5 and the conditioners at 4.5, so all of our products are very gentle on colour treated hair and have very little, if any, affect on colour fastness.

What is the shelf-life of Calia products?

The shelf-life of all our products is 2.5-3 years, so long as they are store in a cool, dry place.

Do you offer sample sizes?

We recommend to try at least a full 240 ML bottle of our product before determining its effect on your hair.

Are your products vegan and cruelty free?

We have recently changed our formulas and they no longer contain beeswax (this is not yet indicated on our labels or online). Our products are now proudly 100% vegan and are cruelty free. We are working on updated labels as we speak!

If there are no animal by-products, why do your ingredients say horsetail?

Horsetail is the plant that silica comes from.

Are your products guaranteed satisfaction?

Yes! If you are not happy with any Calia product, you may return it (at your cost for shipping) and we will refund your full product cost upon receipt. Please ensure the bottle is at least half full.

Can I mix and match some of the products within a combination special?

Yes, you can! You can now make your selections using our new Mix & Match Bundles. All other Shampoo & Conditioner Combos cannot be modified.

Are essential oils safe for pregnant women or infants?

The following oils are safe to use in moderation when pregnant: virtually all citrus oils, lavender, frankincense, peppermint, spearmint, ylang ylang, eucalyptus, chamomile, tea tree, rose geranium, cypress.

Not safethyme, aniseed, rosemary, citronella, cinnamon, clary sage (although can be used to get labour started), rose, basil, fennel.

This list can also be used for infants (it is best to start at 9 months to 1 year as a starting age) but it is better to NOT use peppermint and rather, use spearmint instead.

As well, it is VERY important that you dilute any essential oil you use quite substantially with a carrier oil (example: dilution ratio 10:1). Try a little bit of the diluted oil at a time to ensure no adverse reaction. As the child gets older, the dilution level can be cut back a little bit at a time.

Can you ingest the essential oils?

Although we put “not for internal use” on our labels, many of the oils are indeed digestible. We have to tag the labels because of liability requirements for our large retailer accounts. There are people out there that think drinking straight cinnamon or peppermint oil would be a good idea and will do it. This, of course, can cause some big problems. Let common sense prevail and you can enjoy a drop of lemon in your tea, orange and/or rosemary on a breast of chicken or lemongrass in your favourite Vietnamese dish. Just always keep in mind that Calia essential oils are very pure and can be very powerful substances so they only need to be used sparingly.

Where does your palm oil come from?

*Important update: We are in the midst of transitioning all of our labels to reflect our exciting formula change, but we are very happy to share that our formula now contains only coconut oil, instead of a coconut/palm oil blend.

SHIPPING QUESTIONS

Are Calia products available in stores outside of Canada?

No, unfortunately not, we only sell online at this time.

Our products are expensive to make (many times more than mainstream products) and all of our oils are very high-grade products wherein every lot we purchase for bottling has been tested with a Certificate of Analysis, and none are diluted with anything (save some of the blends for topical use). We have opted to sell directly to our customers in order to pass on value to you, our customers.

We have now launched our newest collaboration with online retailer So Natural Beauty, based in Belgium. Now, customers in Europe can access our FULL LINE and have their order shipped within days! Head to So Natural Beauty here to place your order.

Other than So Natural Beauty, we currently only sell from western Canada. We are working now on solutions for our customers in other markets. Thank you for your patience!

How much does shipping to ___ cost?

Please note our rates apply to the Continental USA and some states may be subjected to higher rates. APO addresses do not qualify for these rates. In both of these situations, we are subject to higher shipping costs. We appreciate your understanding!

Do I get a tracking number?

All US Canadian bound orders will receive a tracking number when the order is shipped for either the postal service or UPS. Currently most overseas customers choose International Surface mail. There is no tracking available for these shipments unless a large price premium is paid.

If you wish to receive your item faster, please choose UPS. They will deliver within 7-14 days to most overseas locations.

How long will it take for my products to arrive?

For Canada, shipping is 2-10 business days depending on the distance from our warehouse to your location.

Generally, service crossing any ocean is 6-14 weeks but not guaranteed. Sometimes it is faster and sometimes slower. Again, we have no control of the postal systems whatsoever, so if you cannot wait, PLEASE do not order! If you wish for a faster shipping option, please inquire with us, or select UPS.

Will you ship to my country?

Yes, we’ve shipped almost everywhere. We are currently not able to ship to Spain due to customs restrictions by Spanish customs, but Spanish customers can now order directly from So Natural Beauty in Belgium! We can offer no guarantees on your country’s postal system and customs services.

Can I change my order once it's placed?

Because the items go directly into the fulfillment warehouse system, what you have chosen is what you'll be shipped.

If you need to cancel your order for any reason, please email us up to 1 hour after your order is confirmed, and we will do what we can. Orders are processed at end of the day, 7 days a week with the exception of statutory holidays, so we are not always able to accommodate requests for cancellations.

Are your prices in Canadian dollars?

All prices on the Canadian site are in Canadian dollars.
