Hair oiling is an ancient technique that involves coating your hair in oil and massaging it in, with the goal of improving texture, shine, and overall hair health. Whatever your hair type, you will most definitely benefit from hair oiling. Yes, even if you have naturally oily hair! Continue reading to find out how to oil your hair and how often you should do it!
First, What Are The Benefits?
Oiling your hair on a regular basis helps to rehydrate it, soften it, prevent excess hair fall and keep the scalp healthy. Thanks to all the vitamins and minerals present in natural hair oils, you can nourish the hair from the roots to the ends. Not only that, but these hair oils have the ability to penetrate into the hair cuticle in order to help protect your hair from damage.
Let's Get Into It, How Do You Do It?
Step 1:
Select your trusted hair oil! Our favourites include our Organic Argan Oil and our Jojoba Oil, which both carry a wide variety of benefits for the hair.
Step 2:
Gently comb or brush your hair, until there are no tangles present.
Step 3:
Start by applying a generous amount of oil to the scalp, gently massaging it in until the roots are evenly coated.
Step 4:
Once you have oiled the scalp, move to the lengths! Grab some more oil and gently work it through the lengths of the hair, and massage it into the ends. You can then grab a wide tooth comb (we recommend our TEK Comb With Handle + Wide Teeth), and lightly comb the hair to distribute the oil further.
Step 5:
Grab a large claw clip, and tie your hair up, leaving it for anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours! You can alternatively pull your hair back into a loose braid.
Step 6:
Rinse! The final step is to wash your hair, which is why we only recommend oiling your hair on hair washing days. We also strongly suggest to lather your hair twice, ensuring you are removing all of the oil!
We recommend oiling your hair 1-2x a week for maximum results! If you still have questions, drop us a line here. You can shop our hair and skin oils here.
